We now approach the end of the year filled with gratitude for the strength, resilience, and togetherness that define the experience of being in our school community. As the final stages of 2023 unfold, there will be for everyone countless moments of growth, joy, and shared learning. Everything has the potential to enrich our life and support our own and the world’s evolution. Can we grasp that potential with a loving heart?
May we seek out quiet moments of reflection during this season and cherish the bonds that strengthen us. Let go of ugly thoughts that may easily emerge in the hustle and bustle of the season.
Big thanks to our school staff who work in service of the children with a positive and forward facing attitude. We are so blessed to have that eager and positive energy living in our school. It is a unique and highly valued feature of our school.
Thank you to all the parents and carers for their trust and support. Your children are so precious and we do not take for granted the love and care you offer so that we can have them, full of vim and vigour, for a few hours each day.
School resumes in 2024 on Wednesday 31st January. We look forward to seeing your children then.
This is the last Pabulum newsletter for the year. A letter packed with information for 2024, will be sent during the break. Look out for it after the 10th of January.
In the spirit of Steiner education, let’s embrace the coming year with curiosity, imagination, and a deep commitment to fostering an environment where each child can unfold their unique potential. Together, we hold the keys to a future for our children, via education, our support and our love which can be filled with compassion, creativity, and deep understanding.
Wishing you all a special advent season and a Christmas filled with love, laughter, and moments of wonder
"The true task of a Waldorf school is to work out of the spirit of humankind, out of a deep knowledge of the human being. We must find and be aware of this spirit and this knowledge if we want to be true teachers."

The waves of warmth
That strongly through the land are radiating, spreading,
Proclaim that we,
To glorious, golden days of summer-sun are heading.
"Be filled with light!"
My spirit understands these words which Nature everywhere is showing.
"Let thoughts take flight!"
My heart is told; "Be never earthbound but be always changing, growing!"

Class 8 Graphic Novels
Class 8 have spent Term 4 English working on creating their very own graphic novel. Tasked with developing a story that contained a dynamic antagonist and protagonist who showed depth and development, an intricate setting, a comprehensive plot, effective use of dialogue with some narration to move the story along, creative panel layout, and well- chosen use of colour to enhance the mood of the story, students developed some truly amazing pieces of work. From space to London, dwarves to aubergine’s, adventurous eggs to a prisoner in a Russian gulag, the stories were vastly different, unique, and oh so much fun to read!
Enjoy perusing some snippets of their graphic novels.

An Afternoon at Lake Leschenaultia
Last Friday Class 7 and Class 8 took a trip to Lake Leschenaultia, and it was a day packed with fun, swimming, and a little bit of wildlife spotting.
Upon arrival, most students jumped into the lake. They swam, played on the pontoon, and had a great time splashing around with their friends. The water was the main attraction, and everyone enjoyed the refreshing dip.
As an alternative to the water, a small group took a walk around the lake, trading water games for a bit of exploration. They were in for a treat as they spotted a Long Neck turtle swimming in the water and saw some swamp hen families with their fluffy feathered young. It was a nice way to appreciate the local wildlife and take in the beautiful scenery.
During a quiet moment for lunch, a few ducks and parrots decided to join the party, hoping to snack on some dropped crumbs. It was a funny sight and added a little excitement to the gathering.
The afternoon saw more water fun. A bold group from Class 8 even decided to swim across the lake and back, accompanied by Krystal in her kayak. It was a challenging task, but they were up for it, adding a dash of adventure to the day.
By the end of the day, everyone had had their fill of fun, nature, and adventure; leaving everyone feeling a little tired and ready for a restful weekend!
End of year fun at Adventure World
To celebrate the end of term, Class 7 and 8 students were in for a treat on our last Thursday at school. With much anticipation we boarded the bus for Adventure World, where we joined throngs of other schools out to enjoy the end of year and the slightly cooler weather.
After settling into our shady "home' spot, students wasted no time dashing off in their pre-arranged groups. Aside from some fleeting glimpses to check in or on a quick stop by for some food on their way to the next ride, the students did not linger on the grassy area.
While some spent most of their time in the Lagoon, splashing around in the water, others were up for some more adrenaline - they had cleverly arranged to be in groups with other students who were keen to go to similar things as them. The Abyss, Kraken, Goliath and Inferno, all aptly terrifying names, proved rather popular with students enduring the slightly longer queues and returning again and again to some of these more adventurous rides.
It was a great way to end the term, tired but very happy students returned on Friday for our last half day where they carried out Christmas crafting or decorating and a spot of cleaning before heading off for the well-earned break.
We wish all families a wonderful time together over the break.

Class 9 Autobiography Main Lesson
The Autobiography Main Lesson is an opportunity for students to take a 'deep dive' into their own existence and how they came to 'be'. Beginning with their parents meeting to their own inception and life since, students are invited to ask family members to share with them precious memories, which they reproduce in their own words and illustrate with photographs.
Delving into these important stories allows students the experience of understanding where they came from, and how they came to be who they are today. As they tell the stories they remember themselves (Kindy, primary school and early high school), the joy of storytelling and sharing key highlights of their lives to date, is evident.
As part of this main lesson, we take time to eat the food or play the games we associate with certain phases. Hence, in the photos below we see:
- 'Kindy bread' with butter and honey for our Kindy storytelling circle,
- Hearty games of Big Dragon associated with Primary School.
This main lesson invites reflection, a depth of response and a focus on both the mechanics of writing and the joy of storytelling.

Class 10 Science - Chemistry Main Lesson
Following on from their look at Forensic Science, the Class 10's have been looking at some concepts of Chemistry like signs of a chemical reaction, acids and alkalis, forming solutions and catalysts. The experiments have focused on household (found at Bunnings) chemicals ranging from the classic kitchen experiment of neutralising vinegar with baking soda to dissolving the exterior of an aluminium drinks can with drain cleaner. The experiments have supported their development of scientific thinking throughout the year and prepared them well for Class 11 Main Lessons in 2024.

Class 11 Visit Murdoch University Library
On Tuesday 28 November, Class 11 journeyed to the Geoffrey Bolton Library at Murdoch University. After having lunch on the lawn in the shade, we made our way to the library. Students received a tour of the library, and were given time to look around. They were able to access and borrow resources relevant to their Class 12 Project, and discover what it is like to study in a big university library space. For many, this provided a spark for their Class 12 Project journey. For others, an insight into what it might be like when they study at university.
