Bibra Lake Diary 29th July 2025
The recent rain has done a lot to revive the lake and raise the water level. Most of the reeds and grasses that were visible in early winter are now covered over. Birdlife is plentiful. Coots and ducks cut ever-widening V’s across the still surface. Swans are building their nests out in the middle of the lake. Crows have begun nesting in a large tree near the jetty.
The water level is up to the bottom of the first jetty post. A couple of years ago it got up to the fourth post so hopefully, with more rain to come, it can reach this point again.

Class 5 - Botany Main Lesson
The Class 5's have begun the Term with "Botany" as their first Main Lesson.
This is such a fantastically lush time of year to be studying the Plant Kingdom, but unfortunately, the rain meant we had to postpone some of our planned nature walks in our first week....so we decided to bring nature inside instead.
The children made some beautiful wax sculptures comparing the difference between gum and nasturtium leaves while we discussed the possible reasons for why nature may have decided to grow these plants differently.
We are looking forward to many more fun lessons where we will be using nature within our Arts and Crafts, and I'm looking forward to seeing what interesting plants we can find on our excursion to Kings Park in Week Four.
