Class 10 Main Lesson - Sequence & Series
Our Sequences and Series Main Lesson takes students beyond their immediate experience of numbers and offers a deeper appreciation for the role of mathematics in describing the aesthetic elements of the world around them.
By exploring arithmetic and geometric sequences and series, students see these as a natural extension of basic number patterns. This topic offers a synthesis of geometry and algebra, allowing students to explore how these two branches of mathematics come together to describe the world in both abstract and practical ways. They explore how these patterns manifest in areas accessible to the senses, such as nature, music, architecture, and the human body, bridging the gap between the finite and infinite.
Visual representations of these patterns, such as logarithmic and equiangular spirals are created and analysed, while real-world applications from both nature and human-made environments are studied. An example of this is our examination of mathematical patterns in real- life plants and shells.
For Class 10 students, who are beginning to seek a deeper understanding of the world and their place within it, this Main Lesson provides not only knowledge about a mathematical topic but also insight into how we come to know something with certainty. Patterns in nature that they may have noticed in earlier years are now explored with structure and form. With their growing ability for theoretical thinking, Class 10 students are able to apply general laws, make predictions, and gain a more profound understanding of the world around them.
