Now that the Paris Games are over...
This Friday Class 5 children from all 7 Steiner schools in WA will all congregate at PWS to take part in this year's Greek Olympic games. The children will be in mixed teams representing the Greek city-states: Athens, Delphi, Corinth, Sparta and Thebes. After an opening ceremony and devotional verses the children will process through the school to the big field where the Olympic torch is lit and the Games begin!
There will be a flurry of activity and much to enjoy: Marathon, discus, javelin, long jump, wrestling, sprints, relays and chariots!
Children at this age are naturally upright and graceful. Activities such as throwing the javelin and discus make use of the athletes’ present abilities. They can have the sense that they are striving for beauty and excellence of movement, as well as physical prowess.
It seems Almighty Zeus will bless us with a beautiful sunny day. Come and enjoy the spectacle!
